Harwood Young, who named the hill in 1889 as tribute to Boston’s historic Beacon Hill, built a streetcar line connecting beacon hill to downtown Seattle that Beacon Hill became more populated.

Nowadays Beacon Hill is a thriving neighborhood, the busiest section being on the north end where Beacon Hill meets the rainier Valley. There’s plenty to do in Beacon Hill, even though it is largely residential, there are several types of activities and attractions to enjoy. Local residents enjoy Jefferson Park with various hiking trails tennis courts and a kid friendly playground. There are also plenty of restaurants to enjoy as well including The Station for coffee or Delight Bakery as well as many ethnic restaurants.
